Legal recruiting for law firms

How Bound helps law firms

Bound recruits for US law firms of roughly 5 to 200 attorneys. That is the whole market it is built for, not a fallback after the largest firms. It works only in legal, so a search starts with the practice area and the level, not a generic job description.

Whether your firm is strengthening an existing group, opening a new practice, or making a senior appointment, one person runs the search from the first call to the signed offer. Submit a search to describe the role, or read how Bound works first.

How a search with Bound works

Six steps from the first call to 90 days after the start date. The detail is on the how Bound works page.

  1. Intake call

Bound starts with the role, the level, the practice area, and what the firm has paid for similar hires.

  2. Market map

Bound identifies the attorneys in your market who fit the role and approaches them on your behalf.

  3. Shortlist

You receive a short list of candidates whose practice area and level match the role, each with a written summary.

  4. Interview coordination

Bound schedules interviews and passes feedback in both directions so the process keeps moving.

  5. Offer and negotiation

Bound handles the offer conversation, including base salary, start date, and any counteroffer.

  6. 90-day follow-up

Bound stays in touch through the first 90 days. If the hire leaves or is let go in that window, Bound replaces them at no additional fee.

Why firms work with Bound

What is different about how Bound is set up.

Matched by practice area

Bound keeps a database of partner contacts tagged by practice area. A candidate is introduced only to partners whose practice matches, never sent to a list.

Fees published in full

25% of base salary at every level, all on contingency, payable 14 days after the start date, with a free 90-day replacement. The terms are on one page, not behind a call.

Built for firms under 200 attorneys

The range is 5 to 200 attorneys, and it is a deliberate position. Bound does not chase searches at the largest firms, so a regional firm is not a secondary account.

One person from first call to offer

The person on your intake call is the person who runs the search, presents the shortlist, and handles the offer. There is no rotating team, no junior handoff, and no automated pipeline.

What it costs

Bound works on contingency at every level, including lateral partner and practice group searches.

Questions firms ask

What size firms do you work with?

Law firms of roughly 5 to 200 attorneys: regional firms, growing boutiques, specialist practices, and mid-market full-service firms. Bound is not built for the largest firms or for in-house legal departments.

What levels do you recruit?

Lateral partners, practice group and team moves, of counsel, senior associates, associate attorneys, and paralegals and legal professionals.

How do your fees work?

The fee is 25% of the candidate's base salary, at every level. It is payable only if you hire, within 14 days of the candidate's start date. There is no retainer and no upfront cost.

Do you offer a replacement guarantee?

Yes. If a candidate Bound places leaves or is let go within 90 days of starting, Bound replaces them at no additional fee.

How long does a typical search take?

It depends on the level and the practice area, so Bound does not quote an average. After the intake call, Bound tells you what it expects for your role and keeps you updated as the search moves.

How do you protect our confidentiality when we are hiring quietly?

Tell Bound at the intake call that the search is confidential. Bound then approaches candidates without naming your firm until you agree, and shares details only with the people you name.

What happens if we have already seen a candidate you introduce?

Tell Bound as soon as you see the resume, and say where and when you first saw it. Bound keeps a dated record of every introduction, so it is clear who introduced the candidate first.

Do you work on contingency or retained?

Contingency, at every level, including lateral partner and practice group searches. You pay nothing unless you hire.
